We have so much moral support from so many people, which we really appreciate. However, we are not having much success with raising funds for the walk. We desperately need money for some equipment, food and fuel for the support vehicle, and without funds, our dream to film the river and screen it to all river users may not be realised. Eight people are prepared to volunteer (yes, volunteer – none of us will be earning anything) a month of their lives walking this river for the benefit of everyone, surely there must be people out there who can help us?
We are looking for :
Fuel – donations of, or funding towards purchase – thanks BP Drakensberg for your support.
First Aid We need level one first aid training for the whole team. Does anyone have a contact prepared to do this for us?
Accommodation been donated much of the way – at hotels, guesthouses and private homes – for which we are enormously grateful.
FOOD! Some meals have been donated, but we still need 24 dinners. Are there any volunteers to cook a dinner – maybe 2 or 3 friends can pitch in and cook up a big stew? Enough for 8 hungry people that can preferably be frozen. We can then arrange to collect all the frozen meals before the walk (or during) and arrange their delivery to the support vehicle.
We are drawing up a list of food items needed for breakfasts– long life milk, muesli, sugar, tea & coffee, fruit, etc. Lunches – snack bars, peanuts & raisins, cheese triangles, stuff we can carry. Donations of the items or money towards them. Or does anyone know a supplier or shop owner who may be interested?
Movie camera We are looking for a cam corder/movie camera for the team to use to film the journey. If anyone has a decent quality one we could borrow, we’d be delighted. We will have insurance in case something happens to it.
Donations/funding towards paying professional documentary makers – or the services of documentary makers who will donate their time.
Airtime: Vodacom airtime vouchers will be gratefully accepted as we will be e-mailing, blogging and phoning in the details of our adventure every evening.
I can see that as opposed from the original idea to get this walk funded by government, NGO’s & business, this is going to be a walk by the people, supported by the people and for the people! Any offers, please contact me, Penny 082 340 7571. Or deposit your donation into the DUCT account (details on the Supporters page). Don’t hesitate – do it now.
