Russell High sings for Rivers

With only a week to go, the Russell High School choir are practising the song which Gertrud Tonsing wrote for the River Walkers: “I’ll sing of the Wind in the Grasslands”  They intend welcoming the the River Walkers with song as they arrive at the Blue Lagoon in Durban on 27 May.

Seen rehearsing on the banks of the river are Russell High learners, Londeka Sishi, Mandisa Zondi and Nelisiwe Zulu.

Russell High School is renowned for their creative use of waste materials – amazing art and design work, using only recycled materials.  Creating, among other things, extravagant ballgowns from pre-used items like cds and plastic bags.  Some of their Matric Artwork is on show at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg until mid-June.

Will you join the celebration of our rivers at the Green Hub at Blue Lagoon next Sunday?  Contact Margaret Burger for details: 083 630 5380

About Nikki Brighton

I live in Howick, between the river and the hills. I enjoy pre-dawn walks in the streets with my dog, sitting on the veranda with crochet and tea, and harvesting vegetables outside the kitchen door.
