We have just received these pics from Kirsten Oliver showing the inundation of 4x4s and off road motor cycles that we mentioned in the blog post this weekend.

About Nikki Brighton

I live in Howick, between the river and the hills. I enjoy pre-dawn walks in the streets with my dog, sitting on the veranda with crochet and tea, and harvesting vegetables outside the kitchen door.

  1. Gary Smith - New Frontiers Tours says:

    Hi Nikki,

Is it not worth appealing to the Department of Environmental Affairs for a blanket ban on 4x4ing a certain number of metres from a river bank? Similar to the beach ban that has been so effective. I know it’s difficult to police but with so many people living in close proximity to the river, especially the uMngeni River, there is the opportunity of tip-offs and community whistle-blowing.

    Keep up the great work!!!

    Best regards,

  2. Is it not time for environment NGOs to make a joint and unanimous call for taxes to be levied on all 4X4 drivers at petrol stations, so that a national fund for reparations can be raised and managed by NGOS, for such excessive carbon emissions, and for reparation projects in the environment.

Driving a 4X4 in this current era, with the knowledge of how close we are to climate chaos, is like chain smoking after a diagnosis of lung cancer.
