I feel like I’m in a movie rerun – Preven making rows of peanut butter and jam sandwiches whilst I lay out the tools of our trade: panga, mini sass kit, pliers, camera, Dictaphone and GPS. Fill the water bottles. Charge all the batteries. Check all the kit is packed.
We are on the eve of our seventh river walk, being hosted by Mark and Cecily Liptrot, members of the eThekweni Conservancies Forum. We had a meeting with our support crew this afternoon.
All the members of the forum who have done all the recce work – this has meant that I have been spoiled rotten – I’ve not had to drive around the countryside finding the source, nor do the tedious mapping work to which I owe Justine Saunders and Hugh McGibbon a very big thank you.
We are in Kloof outside Durban and tomorrow morning at 06h00 we leave our lofty accommodation and head for the source of the Aller River in New Germany.
Watch this space: we are hoping we won’t be walking besides a sewer like our last walk. To the Aller with love…
